A 6th generation musician from a family of musical stalwarts, Saxophone Ramantathan is the son and disciple of Padma Bhushan Dr.T.V.Gopalakrishnan and holds a bachelor’s degree in music from the Madras University and in Western music from the Trinity Collegeof Music, London. He is a senior disciple of Late Padmashri Dr. Kadri Gopalnath, performing with a unique style defined by technique, giving importance to bhava. He has been the torch bearer of the Kadri Style of music for the past 3 decades. He has been featured in concerts at various prestigious venues in India and abroad ans is presently the only empanelled artist of the ICCR New Delhi for Classical Saxophone. He has performed classical Saxophone concerts in all leading sabhas in Chennai, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Maharashtra and had the privilege of participating in international collaborations in Dubai. London, France, Frankfurt, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia. He has been conferred with many titles and awards including the “asthana vidwan of kanchi kamakoti peetham”, “Gana Kala Sironmani” and “Ilam Isai Mamani”. He has been teaching students at various levels of expertise on the saxophone for the past 10 years with an aim of helping people explore and understand the nuances of saxophone music and make them concert ready. He looks forward to sharing his experience and expertise on this beautiful and rich instrument – the saxophone.
